A Proper Pub Comedy Night in Edinburgh's Old Town
Three flights up from the bar of The Beehive Inn, one of Edinburgh's oldest pubs, The Comedy Attic is the city's original pub comedy night. Every Friday and Saturday we pack the newly refurbished attic with around sixty-five people - locals, tourists, stags, hens, and visitors from out of space - everybody is welcome, for two hours of live stand-up. Rick Molland hosts a rotating line-up of the best comics working in Scotland, the UK, and further afield, plus the odd surprise drop-in from names you'll recognise. Low ceilings, hot food, cold beer, whisky on ice, and loads of laughs.
Your Host: Rick Molland
Rick has been running comedy rooms in Edinburgh for over twenty years and hosts every single show at The Comedy Attic himself. Expect him warming up the crowd, introducing the acts, and if you heckle, dismantling you in front of sixty-five strangers. In fact, please heckle, we dare you! He's a regular on the Scottish circuit, has supported touring headliners across the UK, and has gigged all over the world. His speciality is Roasting (that's brutal comedic takedowns, performed with mutual affection) and he is widely regarded as one of the UK's top comperes.

FAQ's
1. Where is The Comedy Attic in Edinburgh?
We're three flights up in The Beehive Inn, 18-20 Grassmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2JU. Enter through the pub's main door on Grassmarket and follow the signs up the stairs. The room itself is the attic of the building, which is how we got the name.
2. How much are Comedy Attic tickets?
Tickets are £12.50 online and £15 on the door. Booking online saves you £2.50 per ticket and guarantees your seat. Group bookings for stag and hen parties have separate offers. See the Stag Dos page for details.
3. What time does The Comedy Attic start?
Shows start at 8:15pm every Friday and Saturday night. Doors open roughly half an hour before. A typical show runs around two hours including a short interval, so you're usually out around 10:30pm.
4. Is there food at The Comedy Attic?
You can get good pub food downstairs at The Beehive Inn before the show. Once you're in the room, it's drinks only. The usual plan is dinner downstairs, then head up for the comedy.
5. Can I bring my own drinks into the show?
It's not BYOB. There's a bar on the ground floor of The Beehive, so grab a drink on the way up. There's also an interval halfway through the show so you can top up.
6. Do I need to book Comedy Attic tickets in advance?
Yes, we'd recommend it. The room seats 65 and we sell out pretty regularly, especially on Saturdays and during festival season. Booking online is cheaper than the door and you're guaranteed a seat.
7. Can under-18s come to The Comedy Attic?
Under-18s are welcome if they're with an adult, but Scottish licensing rules mean they have to leave the venue by 10pm. Comedy tends to be adult in tone, so if you're bringing a teenager, just be aware the material isn't tailored for them.
8. Is The Comedy Attic wheelchair accessible?
No. The room is up several flights of stairs in a 300-year-old Edinburgh building with no lift. It's called the Attic for a reason. It's not suitable for wheelchair users, and the bar and toilets are on other floors, which means more stairs during the night. If you have mobility needs, get in touch before booking and we'll talk you through the layout honestly.
